The response to the COVID-19 spread has affected all parts of life. There really isn’t a way to not be disrupted in some way by the impact the virus has on American life and abroad. During the previous dead period, there was no hotter prospect in the country than Lackawanna Junior College cornerback De’Jahn Warren.
The defender—who holds offers from Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, Nebraska and many more—was at home in Maryland when his school shut down. The school was on spring break. While his school will finish the semester online, there is a problem. Warren and his classmates need to make an appointment with the school to come back and get their things.
Warren doesn’t like the experience of having to be away from school. He enjoys school and was looking forward to spring football. There was another unintended consequence of the timing of things shutting down. Warren has teammates that were graduating this semester that he will never see again. Not getting a proper goodbye has been tough on him and his teammates, but he says they are trying to take it in stride.
“Some of us come from bad neighborhoods,” Warren said. “School is a safe haven for us. Me personally, I’d rather be in school. It keeps me out of trouble and away from things. Everybody needs their space every once in a while. Some of us never even had our own room at home. When we go to school we have some type of privacy. Plus, we have a guaranteed three meals a day. Some of us don’t get three meals a day at home.”
As for his recruitment, Warren has stayed in constant communication with schools. Because he can’t physically go check out campuses right now, his phone has been pretty busy. He said that he is always on FaceTime with all different types of coaches. They text too, so he’s been communicating a lot.
Defensive lineman Pheldarius Payne, a 2020 Nebraska signee, was teammates with Warren last season. Payne is working on Warren to join him in Lincoln. So far, the cornerback has set official visits to Oklahoma and Penn State. He didn’t want to spill the beans yet on who will get the other three.
“I’m going to surprise you all with that on who will get my other officials but stay tuned,” Warren said.
