We’ve got a game this week, so we’ve got a podcast.
The I-80 Preview returns this week to preview Nebraska’s spring game, but in slightly unconventional fashion. Spring games themselves are slightly unconventional. There are no numbers to break down, no styles of play to assess, no key strengths or weaknesses to be utilized or exploited.
Instead how about a game of “Call it, Friend-o” or “choose your fighter” or “pick one,” whatever term you prefer. (Seriously, pick one.)
To preview that which is difficult to preview, I am joined this week by Hail Varsity staff writer Derek Peterson, and we run through five make-a-pick player scenarios:
- WR Omar Manning or WR Samori Touré
- S Noa Pola-Gates or S Myles Farmer
- QB Heinrich Haarberg or QB Logan Smothers
- LB Nick Henrich or LB Chris Kolarevic
- RB Jaquez Yant or RB Gabe Ervin Jr.
What are the parameters? There aren’t any. It’s not about who performs best on Saturday or who has had the better spring. It’s just a choice, but a choice involving two players in each instance who figure to be big parts of the game and the season ahead.
If you, like the gas-station owner in “No Country for Old Men,” are saying right now: “We need to know what we’re calling it for, here.”
I am saying: “You need to call it. I can’t call it for you.”
Though if you want to hear our picks and plenty of Nebraska football talk ahead of Saturday’s spring game, you can listen below or, better yet, subscribe via Apple Podcasts, Spotify or your preferred pod purveyor. That way you won’t miss any special episodes throughout the year such as this. The I-80 Preview has new episodes each week in the fall.
The I-80 Preview podcast is a Hurrdat Media production.
