ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the two parties have logistics to finalize, including how much of the $34 million buyout the Carolina Panthers owe Rhule. Thamel said the deal is on track and set to be finalized in the upcoming days. Recent attempts by Hail Varsity to contact Rhule and his agent, Trace Armstrong, were not returned.

Rhule was the head coach of the Carolina Panthers 2020-22 until he was fired in October following a 1-4 start to this season. He previously coached at Baylor (2017-19) and Temple (2013-16).
Rhule is from the Big Ten footprint. He’s a Penn State alum—he walked on as a linebacker in 1994—and volunteered as an assistant with the program in 1998. He was an assistant for the New York Giants before taking over at Temple, based in Philadelphia. Rhule then took over at Baylor, where he turned an 11-loss team into an 11-win team and a shoestring tackle away from the College Football Playoff in 2019. He was recognized as Big 12 Coach of the Year for that season.
Nebraska is 3-8, 2-6 Big Ten heading into the season finale against Iowa.
