The Scott Frost era at Nebraska is officially over.
Hours after the Huskers lost to Georgia Southern in front of 86,000 clad in red, Frost was informed by vice chancellor and athletic director Trev Alberts that a change was needed at the head of the football program. The Husker great quarterback, who helmed an offense to National Championship 25 years ago but failed to post a winning season as head coach, was fired.
“Earlier today I met with Coach Frost and informed him we were making a change in the leadership of our football program, effective immediately,” Alberts said in a statement. “Scott has poured his heart and soul into the Nebraska football program both as a quarterback and head coach, and I appreciate his work and dedication.”

Alberts will host a press conference at 3 p.m. CT today.
Associate head coach Mickey Joseph will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Frost took over as Nebraska’s head coach after leading UCF to an undefeated season in 2017. The Huskers never won more than five games or reached a bowl game in his four complete seasons in Lincoln.
Frost went 12-31 as head coach of his alma mater.
Following the season-opening loss to Northwestern, Frost was asked about potentially resigning. He said rejected that idea. He was going to continue to fight along with the players he recruited to Lincoln. Two weeks later, after another one-score loss, he was asked what he’d say to the fans.
“I just appreciate it,” Frost said. “It’s fun being here and I’m blessed to be the coach here. I love this state and this program. I’m fighting with everything I have, and so is the rest of the coaching staff. We do the ‘March to Victory’ and everything. I know there’s questions and negativity out there, but the people that I see at those things and the fans staying, it’s unbelievable. I appreciate the people that are with us.”
He then thanked everyone and walked away. It was his last full day as head coach.
