The Nebraska football team is back in Lincoln after the trip to Ireland. The Huskers departed Dublin quickly following the 31-28 loss to Northwestern, returning to Nebraska in the early morning on Sunday.
Nebraska pushed its weekly press conference from Monday to Tuesday, allowing the team to recover.
“It was tough getting back,” coach Scott Frost said to the media on Tuesday. “We kind of chose this, that we really wanted to get into week two.”
That meant a practice—which was more of a walk-through—and meetings took place in the evening on Monday. Nebraska typically prefers to practice in the morning. The Huskers were getting back to normal on Tuesday, but Frost said Wednesday will be more typical to what they do in most game week preparations.
As Frost watched back the film, what did he see from Nebraska against Northwestern?
“I think a lot of places, watching the tape, we played hard, the effort was there,” he said. “Came down to four or five plays on both sides of the ball again that we need to execute…”
Frost added that he believes Nebraska will be in a number of games where that will be the case. How can the Huskers overcome that? “It comes down to detail and consistency,” Frost added.
While Frost knows there is disappointment around the season opener, he did offer up a message to Husker fans before the home debut on Saturday against North Dakota.
“Don’t give up on this team, because this is a neat group of kids,” he said.

“I think he played a great first half,” Frost said before adding that things changed in his absence. “He’s really a security blanket for us.”

“We’ll see,” Frost said. “I definitely had more conversations with special teams and defense than I’ve ever had but I’ll find my rhythm there.”

When it came to his comment on creativity and cooperation from Saturday, Frost said he was talking more about the run game specifically and not play calling.
“We have to do better up front,” he said.
He added that Nebraska did a lot of creative things on offense, and that they did a lot of good things in the first two and a half quarters.
“Lots of frustration and disappointment but plenty of things we can build on,” Frost added,
>> Frost said this is the best locker room and culture he has had at Nebraska.
“The tightest team we’ve had,” he said. “In the building, everyone’s excited. Disappointed but excited.”
He added that he knows that the coaches “have to get it done” this season but turned his attention toward the players and what the first game can do going forward.
“I think it only strengthens resolve,” he said.
