Nebraska Coach Mike Riley announced that the Huskers will be without two presumed starters, senior wide receiver Brandon Reilly and senior safety Nathan Gerry, against Fresno State next week as the pair serves a suspension.
“The answer to your next questions is a violation of team rules and that’s all I can say about that,” Riley said.
For Gerry, it’ll be the first game he has missed as a Husker. The senior has played in 39 consecutive games for Nebraska.
“It’s not frustration, it’s, you know, disappointment to an extent,” defensive coordinator Mark Banker said of Gerry’s suspension. “I know he’s disappointed as well, but this too shall pass and we go forward.”
Riley also confirmed that true freshman wide receiver Derrion Grim has left the program and will look to play elsewhere.
Per a conversation Wednesday night, Riley said Grim was looking at junior college options and thus would not need a release from his scholarship.
