February Issue of Hail Varsity Celebrates Baseball’s Return and More

February 18, 2022

The staff at Hail Varsity loves pretty much all of the sports, and, sure, we all probably have a favorite if forced to choose but it would be a different favorite depending upon who you ask. That’s good.

My favorite? I’d probably give the most common answer––football. It’s the thing I think about year-round. But if we get more specific and think about the starts to all of these various sports, the beginning of a baseball season is pretty tough to beat.

Maybe it’s the promise of warmer days ahead, or simply being outside soon. It certainly doesn’t hurt this year with Nebraska ranked in the preseason top-25s and picked as the favorite in the Big Ten.

The Feb. 2022 cover of Hail Varsity

Staff writer Steve Marik gets you ready for the season in this month’s cover story, a comprehensive preview of Husker baseball. What are the key questions facing Nebraska as it begins a highly-anticipated year? Who are the players to watch? Marik hits on that all and more.

Other highlights from the February issue include:

  • It’s Black History Month and editorial intern Drake Keeler contributes an important story on the history of Black women athletes at Nebraska.
  • Editor Mike Babcock writes on the passing of long-time Nebraska baseball coach John Sanders.
  • A Q&A with Nebraska softball’s Cam Ybarra as well as a notebook looking at the season ahead for Rhonda Revelle’s squad.
  • An interview with Lonna Henrichs, Nebraska’s Director of Licensing & Branding, on how the university approaches approving licensed products, the school’s various marks and more.
  • Plenty of the high-quality photography you’ve come to expect from our award-winning photographers.
