Husker Prospects at The Opening Finals

The Opening Finals is still a few months away, but invitations have already started going out to recruits nation-wide. The Opening’s official Twitter account shared 12 invites on Sunday from the Orlando Regional, which included a few Nebraska prospects.

From that list alone, the Huskers have offered running back Lorenzo Lingard, wide receiver Joshua Moore, wide receiver Brian Hightower and defensive back Brendan Radley-Hiles. Out of those four, three hail from IMG Academy (Lingard attends University in Orange City, Florida).

Radley-Hiles is the prospect that will likely garner the most interest for Husker fans. Not only is he a 4-star prospect with a 94.5 national composite ranking, per Hail Varsity, but he is the cousin of Nebraska 2017 signee Tyjon Lindsey. Radley-Hiles is also originally from Calabasas, California, where he played with the Huskers’ early signees Keyshawn Johnson Jr. and Tristan Gebbia.

The Opening Finals is an invite-only event for top 166 high school players in the nation. Those invited are selected by either film evaluation and/or in-person evaluation. In Radley-Hiles’ case, he was in Orlando over the weekend for the Feb. 19 Opening Regional. It was there that Radley-Hiles was impressive enough to garner an invite to The Opening Finals.

As Radley-Hiles tweeted, he was awarded defensive MVP on Sunday. For those curious as to what position Radley-Hiles could play at Nebraska, he lined up at cornerback, nickel and safety at The Opening, proving his versatility as a defensive back.

Additional invitations for The Opening Finals will continue to go out, especially as the regional events take place. The full event list runs through May, with stops in California (which will likely be of interest to Nebraska who continues to recruit heavily in the state) and Texas.
