Former Huskers Compete During Nebraska's Pro Day

Ryker Fyfe was absent from Nebraska’s Pro Day, which came as initial shock to those in attendance. He was supposed to throw to the receivers, but was noticeably absent instead. As it turns out, Fyfe came down with strep throat and wasn’t able to recover in time.

“I found out this morning,” wide receiver Brandon Reilly said. “I saw Ryker’s dad and he said, ‘I’ve tried everything. Ryker’s just too sick.’ So I made a call to Coach Dub (Keith Williams) and said, ‘Call the bullpen. We need a change today.’”

The changeup came in the form of graduate manager Chase Haslett, who played for Illinois before transferring to Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Haslett split throwing duties with quarterback Tommy Armstrong.

The former Huskers – along with a select few from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and Chadron (Neb.) State College – highlighted their skills in front of scouts from 23 NFL teams and one CFL team. Those in attendance included the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills.

While official numbers typically come out within a day or two (and we will update as we have them), here are a few unofficial times and numbers for the various players in attendance:

Tommy Armstrong

  • 40-yard dash: 4.5 seconds
  • Bench press: 16
  • Vertical jump: 37.5”
  • Broad jump: 10’ 3”

Armstrong said he’s down about 15 pounds from his playing weight last fall. His weight was a primary concern when he switched from quarterback to wide receiver, but Williams has helped him slim down over the last couple of months.

He also said he is 100 percent healthy now after tearing his hamstring during the 2016 season.

Brandon Reilly

  • 40-yard dash: 4.42 seconds
  • Bench press: 18
  • Vertical jump: 32”
  • Broad jump: 10’ 3”

For comparison, only four wide receivers benched more than 18 reps at the NFL Combine. Reilly had a good day on Tuesday, but he’s open to working out with teams as needed.

“I haven’t really though about that but if teams want me to, I’m all for it,” Reilly said. “I’d run tomorrow if I had to. Whatever they want to see, I’ll do.”
