Recruiting Roundup: Huskers Dive In with Early Offers

Nebraska closed out its run of satellite camps last week with stops in St. Louis and California over the weekend. Here are a few updates from the trail:

Early Offers

As designed, the Huskers’ camp tour netted a handful of new offers. Nebraska extended an offer to 2019 St. Louis linebacker Shammond Cooper on Saturday. No ranking for him yet, but based on his offer list he looks like a future 4-star. Auburn, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Wisconsin are also in the mix here.

The Huskers also entered the race for 4-star 2019 tight end Isaiah Foskey. He’s got prototypical tight-end size (6-5, 225) and plays for the powerhouse De La Salle program in Concord, Calif., so the competition will be stiff here as well. Foskey already has offers from four Pac-12 schools, BYU, Michigan and Notre Dame.

Nebraska’s two other offers in California went to 2020 prospects. Santa Ana, Calif., wide receiver Elias Ricks picked up an offer. He plays at Mater Dei, same high school as quarterback JT Daniels, who recently got his own Nebraska offer. The Huskers also offered athlete Lavon Bunkley-Shelton, who plays at another California powerhouse, Junipero Serra.

The Nebraska staff has now made four offers for 2020, three of them in the past week. If you’re at all uneasy about the “accelerated recruiting calendar,” maybe this isn’t great news — those are players just finishing their freshmen years — but it’s sort of reality at this point. And maybe advantageous given Nebraska’s other challenges in recruiting. For the last two 2020 offers, Ricks and Bunkley-Shelton, Nebraska represents their first Power 5 offers, and Mike Riley’s track record when having a long time to build a relationship is pretty good.

Picking Up the Pace at WR

With the decommitment of Cameron Brown over the weekend the Huskers only have one true wide receiver in the 2018 class, but Nebraska seems to be in good shape with Joshua Moore.

Moore is scheduled to visit Nebraska for its Friday Night Lights camp on June 23. That’s after his scheduled announcement date of June 18, so do with that what you will.

And do the same with this:

That’s from TJ Pledger, a Husker target at running back who is currently committed to Oklahoma. Pledger and Moore were together at IMG Academy for a stretch before Moore returned to Texas. Could just be a joke.

Unless it’s not. You never really know, but I guess we will on June 18. And even if Moore does pick the Huskers, Nebraska won't be done with its pursuit of wide receivers.

Bleich’s Visit to UCLA Not ‘Blech’

Nebraska has seemed to move up the ranks with 3-star offensive lineman Chris Bleich since his decommitment from Penn State last month, but Bleich did take a visit to UCLA over the weekend.

Bleich was originally expected to announce his decision in June, but that seems less likely now.
