Calvin Avery, a  4-star defensive tackle from Bishop Dunne High School in Dallas, Texas, is considered one of the top players at his position in the nation. He has long been on Nebraska‚Äôs board for defensive line prospects and visited for the spring game on April 15. On Wednesday, Avery announced his commitment date on Twitter:

I reached out to Avery to see if he was still considering Nebraska and he told me: "No more #GBR for me, they have a lot of young DTs and I'm trying to play freshman year."

The feeling around Avery's recruitment has been that the staff has been honest in their communication with him about where he falls on their board and Calvin has been up front about his desire to play early.

The Huskers have had success recruiting players from Bishop Dunne, getting 3-star defensive tackle Damion Daniels from there in the 2017 class and briefly having 4-star wide receiver Marquez Beason committed for the class of 2019.

The Huskers' 2018 class currently has two defensive lineman committed in defensive end Tate Wildeman and nose tackle Masry Mapieu.
