Recruiting Recon: 2018 Offensive Linemen

July 29, 2017

Players currently committed: 3-star OL Will Farniok (6-3, 250)

How we got here: There is a popular sentiment amongst a group of Nebraska fans that Mike Riley and staff have been ignoring the offensive line in favor of wide receivers and defensive backs. A quick glance back at the 2017 class however, shows the staff signed 3-star linemen Broc Bando, Brenden Jaimes and Matt Sichterman to go along with Lincoln product Chris Walker, who will start out playing offense. Add to that mix that there were four offensive linemen signed in 2016, and you will certainly see that the position is not being ignored.

Will Farniok, younger brother of current Husker, Matt, is the only current 2018 commit on the offensive line. He is projected to play center in college and has continued to improve his stock through the camp circuit.

Where they go from here: Despite signing eight offensive linemen over the past two recruiting cycles Nebraska does have a very particular need in the 2018 recruiting class on the line. Tackle was a spot Mike Cavanaugh missed on in the 2017 cycle, going after big-time prospects like 5-star Foster Sarell who ended up at Stanford and 4-star Chuck Filiaga who chose Michigan.

The player most likely to to join the 2018 class is 2-star tackle Cade Beresford. He has a great frame (6-7, 250) but is raw because he has not played tackle long being a former quarterback. Currently outside of Beresford there aren’t many prospects with mutual interest after 3-star Chris Bleich surprisingly chose UCLA over Nebraska.
