Impressions from Day One of Nebraska's Fall Camp

Football is back. Today was the first day of fall practice for the 2017 Nebraska Cornhuskers. The newly remodeled Hawks Championship Center was filled with excitement on day one of practice even if the first practice is in helmets and shorts.

The practice facility was also filled with media, who were allowed to watch the Huskers’ first practice of fall camp. Here are some impressions from day one based on what I saw:

>>One of the of the things that a lot of people will be paying attention to is the cornerback rotation after Chris Jones went down with a meniscus injury. Joshua Kalu spent day one of practice at the safety spot, the position he switched to in the spring. Eric Lee Jr. got the first crack at replacing Jones with Dicaprio Bootle rotating in as well.

>>On the offensive line, there were no changes from spring ball as Nick Gates, Jerald Foster, Cole Conrad, Tanner Farmer and David Knevel represented the first group. The young linemen — Boe Wilson, John Rairdon, Matt Farniok, and Michael Decker — were all on the second unit.

>>Three players on defense that had injuries during spring ball, or shortly after, were full participants in today’s practice. Linebackers Avery Roberts, Alex Davis and Colin Miller all ran around well today.

>>Carlos Davis was very active in the light scrimmage period. Davis was disruptive. He got his hands up and deflected a couple passes, one of which was intercepted.

>>There was a lot of short passing during today’s practice but there was a 15-yard, perfectly placed “window throw” from Tanner Lee to Tyjon Lindsey. The much talked about quarterback had a solid practice.

>>De’Mornay Pierson-El was not at practice today as he was attending his sister’s wedding. He is expected to rejoin the team this week.

>>In Pierson-El's absence, Lindsey, Bootle, Keyan Williams, Stanley Morgan Jr, and Conor Young were the first players to field punts.
