Mike Riley Updates Huskers' Injuries

October 17, 2016

Head coach Mike Riley met with the media Monday morning where he updated the team's many injuries. A couple of key updates:

>> Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. is expected to play against Purdue. No major injury to report from Riley, but he did say the senior is sore.

>> Left tackle Nick Gates and right tackle David Knevel are questionable for Saturday. Both are suffering from ankle injuries. Riley will know more after Tuesday's practice.

>> I-back Devine Ozigbo is "good to go" for Saturday.

>> Backup cornerback Eric Lee. Jr. suffered a concussion, which is why he did not make the trip to Indiana. He is going through the concussion protocol.

>> Tight end Cethan Carter is out, but wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp is somewhere between doubtful and questionable. Similar to Gates and Knevel, Riley said he will know more about Westerkamp's status after Tuesday's practice.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
How many more injuries can this offensive line take? Pretty amazing what they've accomplished considering how beat up they are.

I don't think they can overcome any more. In fact, if Gates and Knevel both can't go, I think they're in serious trouble. That would most likely mean Cole Conrad and Sam Hahn will be the tackles with Corey Whitaker taking over at left guard. Conrad and Hahn have done an admirable job of filling in when they've had to, but it will not go well if they have to start against Wisconsin.

It looks like none of the scholarship underclassmen - Jalin Barnett, Michael Decker and Christian Gaylord, namely - are ready to play and you definitely don't want to burn redshirts at this point of the season.
