Grant Wistrom Leads 'Husker Prayer' as Part of '97 Team Tribute

October 7, 2017

Nebraska honored its 1997 national championship team prior to the Wisconsin game, and the festivities included a special moment from one of the most memorable Huskers of the era.

Grant Wistrom, the Lombardi Award winner in 1997 and a two-time All-American, led the 2017 team in its recitation of the “Husker Prayer.” The prayer made its debut during the 1994 season — the first of three national titles the Huskers would win under Coach Tom Osborne – and has remained a key part of Husker tradition since.

Wistrom, a defensive end, played on all three of the Osborne-era championship teams and joined a number of his teammates in being honored on the 20-year anniversary of Nebraska’s last national title.
