Husker Commit Mario Goodrich Pushes Signing to February

Last weekend, Nebraska hosted 4-star defensive back commit Mario Goodrich‍ for his official visit. It was the first time he had been back to Lincoln this season, and he was the last current commit to make the trip back to Lincoln. By all accounts, he had a great visit and enjoyed his time back in Lincoln.

I spoke with Goodrich last night and he told me that the visit to Lincoln was good. I asked him point blank if his commitment was still solid to Nebraska.

“I feel solid with my commitment but I will be taking other visits.”

Goodrich now plans to sign his letter of intent in February instead of the original plan to sign during the early signing period that starts Dec. 20. Back in August when I saw him play in person, he told me that he’d be staying in high school so he was never planning to early enroll, just sign early and get it out of the way.

As for other schools interested in him, he did take a surprise unofficial visit to Oklahoma State earlier in the season and they are seen as the biggest threat to Nebraska at the moment. In talking to people close to the situation, the vibe is that he may also be waiting on an SEC offer but the school is unknown at this point.

I have written before that I believe Goodrich is a super talent that is a must get for Nebraska. He has elite athleticism and will be a very good college cornerback. At this time, I do believe the Huskers can hold on to him, but assuming a change is made with Mike Riley keeping Donte Williams on staff would be a huge deal for Goodrich. Even if Riley and Williams are let go, a new staff would have the opportunity to make their case to Goodrich and his family in my opinion. The family likes the proximity of Lincoln to Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and they really like Nebraska as a whole.

Goodrich also picked up some honors this year as he was named co-defensive player of the year, despite teams avoiding throwing to his side of the field on a weekly basis.
