Nebraska Gets the Tackle it Needed in 3-star Willie Canty

Nebraska has searched far and wide for quality offensive line prospects and may have found a gem.

On Wednesday, Nebraska got good news out of Florida as 3-star offensive tackle Willie Canty‍ from Glades Central High School signed with the Huskers. Nebraska got the opportunity to make the final impression on Canty and his family, hosting them for an official visit last weekend. He announced his decision at his school.

Canty fills a huge position of need in this class as the Huskers didn’t have a true tackle committed to the class. When I spoke with Canty over the phone on Sunday after his visit, he let me know what the deciding factors would be in his recruitment.

“The sports management program, the players," he said. "I liked to ask them questions about what things were like. How the coaching staff is and their relationship with the players and how the environment will be for the next four or five years."

Offensive line coach Greg Austin deserves a big hat tip here for the work he did in landing Canty. That relationship was strong dating back to the staff’s time at UCF. Now that Canty is officially in the class, he can be excited that he will get the chance to see more snow, as he was thrilled about that during his visit.
