What They’re Saying

Head coach Mike Riley on if Ohio State is the USC of the Big Ten:

“It reminds me of that as I was asked the question earlier and thought back to those times as you see the ebb and flow and the cycle of life over a long period of time in the league and what happens. At that time, early on in the 2000’s when Pete Carroll did come on the scene and kind of rejuvenated it, it’s like Ohio State. They’ve got all of the tools there and all of the history, and so they’re just kind of kick starting it once again. But when that happened, they became that team so it was always exciting to get a chance to play them, but you knew it was going to be tough. But, I do think everyone in the league got better, and I do see that happening in our league right now. I think that there’s those teams, they’re a good football team. They’ve kind of risen up.”

Wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp on the mindset going into the Ohio State game:

“The mood is good. It was a tough loss. We had them at some points. We felt like we should have come out of that game with a win. Obviously it didn’t go that way. We are excited for this week - huge opportunity for us. We control our own destiny. Guys are still pumped up, they’re jacked to go to Columbus to play a great team at Ohio State. Could be a huge statement game for us so we've just got to continue to keep preparing and just keep getting better.”

Defensive tackle Carlos Davis on if he knew Ezekiel Elliott:

“I knew of Ezekiel because of track, but I didn’t know he played football as well. That kind of came second for me, but I knew him because of track. That is how I first heard of him.”

On if he followed him at all while he was at Ohio State:

“I started hearing about him and then I was like, ‘This dude plays football? Wow.’ Now he is in the NFL so it is crazy.”

Wide receiver/punt returner De'Mornay Pierson-El on waiting for his big punt return to happen:

“It’s a long time coming, but I know it’s coming. Everyone just gels together and gets one big push. Everybody just finishes and everything. One will get taken back.”
