Notre Dame Transfer Nick Watkins No Longer Planning Nebraska Visit

The picturing is becoming a little clearer about what is happening in the secondary for Nebraska this offseason. That picture won't include Notre Dame graduate transfer corner Nick Watkins, who told Hail Varsity he no longer plans to visit Lincoln.

Before today’s news of junior college transfer Will Jackson joining the program, Nebraska only had three true cornerbacks on scholarship heading into the 2018 season.

The news of Jackson joining the program caught everyone by surprise in part because all of the focus was on Watkins. The corner had 29 tackles, eight pass breakups and one interception during the 2017 season. Late last week Watkins was looking to set up a visit to Nebraska and the Huskers were prepared to use one of their two remaining official visits this summer to host the former Notre Dame defender.

On Tuesday night, Watkins told me that he did not set up a visit to Nebraska and does not plan to visit Lincoln before making his decision.

Watkins played high school football at Bishop Dunne in Dallas, which is the same school current Husker defensive lineman Damion Daniels attended. The pursuit of Watkins has warmed up significantly since he made his intentions known to finish his career elsewhere. Sources say that TCU, SMU, Virginia Tech and West Virginia are heavily involved.

The Huskers return three players with some starting experience at corner in 2018: junior Lamar Jackson, sophomore Dicaprio Bootle and junior Eric Lee Jr.
