It looks like former Nebraska quarterback Tristan Gebbia has found his next school just one day after it was officially announced he was leaving the Huskers.

Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel reported Wednesday night that Gebbia will head to Oregon State.

Oregon State named senior Jake Luton the starter earlier this week. A four-game starter in 2017, Luton held off junior Connor Blount and junior college transfer Jack Colletto to win the job. Gebbia will be eligible for the Beavers in 2019.

Nebraska quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco said Wednesday he was caught off guard by Gebbia's decision to transfer after the coaches named Adrian Martinez the starter and informed the two quarterbacks of the decision on Saturday.

“There was no indication to me whatsoever that any of this was going to take place,” Verduzco said. “If there was any indication to me, it would have been incumbent upon me to say, ‘Hey Coach Frost, this might take place and we’ve got to be a little forward-thinking and have a plan.’

“I can tell you when I talked to Tristan on Saturday, he said, ‘Coach, I’m going to work as hard as I ever have and when my number’s called, I’ll be ready to go. I’ll be one of Adrian’s biggest supporters.' He thanked me for my professionalism in terms of how we handled it and that he didn’t have to hear it on the internet and all that sort of stuff. I said, ‘Listen, as long as Coach Frost is here those things aren’t going to take place.’”

Former Nebraska coach Mike Riley joined the Oregon State staff in the offseason, only to accept a job as the head coach of the San Antonio franchise in the Alliance of American Football League in June. Riley is still listed as an analyst on the Oregon State athletics website.
