Huskers Announce Team Captains For 2018

The Huskers have announced captains for the 2018 season.

Seniors Stanley Morgan Jr. (wideout), Jerald Foster (offensive guard), Mick Stoltenberg (defensive tackle) and Luke Gifford (outside linebacker) will serve as the four captains to begin the season.

The foursome will not just be the guys for the opener, but will serve as year-long captains a source confirmed to Hail Varsity. When head coach Scott Frost met with the media on Thursday, he said the staff hadn't yet decided on that but would meet later in the day to talk it over.

"My guess is we probably won’t end up with captains for the whole year," Frost said at the time. "It’s probably going to be on a game-by-game basis."

The change comes from not wanting to deviate too much from tradition. A team spokesperson said the team voted in favor of season-long captains on Thursday.

"I want to make sure that the guys representing us on the field before the game are guys that have earned it and deserve it, and we’ll see how many we have before game one," Frost said back before the team began fall camp. "Our M.O. in Florida was to have a leadership council and rotate guys that were captains for games off of that leadership council. That’s not what’s been done here, and I’m going to be really careful to not break too many traditions."

There are some known changes coming, though. Athletic Director Bill Moos confirmed Thursday that changes were coming to the Tunnel Walk. Nebraska will also be sporting area codes on player helmets to represent hometowns (another thing Frost started at Central Florida).

Nebraska's season begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
