Huskers Upset NC State on the Road 2-1

September 9, 2018

Talk about a bounce-back.

Losers of three straight, with the most recent coming in a 3-1 loss on the road at No. 14 Duke, Nebraska (4-3-1) jumped all over No. 13 NC State (6-1-1) on Sunday and handed the Wolfpack their first loss of the season, 2-1.

In the 39th minute, freshman midfielder Kenzie Coons scored her first career goal to give Nebraska a one-goal advantage heading into halftime.

The Huskers earned some breathing room two minutes into the second half when senior forward Faith Carter headed in her third goal of the season and her second in the last two matches. Carter’s goal came by way of a Brenna Ochoa corner service. Nebraska has been lethal from set pieces on the season and was so again on Sunday.

Junior keeper Aubrei Corder logged a season-high six saves, just one shy of tying a career high. She was one of four Huskers to play the full 90 minutes along with defensive backs Sinclaire Miramontez and Grace Brown and midfielder Meg Brandt.

In the first-ever meeting on the pitch between the two programs, Nebraska's win snapped a nine-match unbeaten streak and a 14-match home unbeaten streak for NC State.

The Huskers are back in action on Sept. 14 when they open Big Ten play on the road against Rutgers (4-1-2) at 4 p.m. CT.
