The rankings ended exactly as they began for Nebraska and Stanford.

The AVCA released its final Coaches Poll on Monday and Nebraska came in at the No. 2 spot behind the national champion Stanford (34-1) team, the team the Huskers fell to in the NCAA Championship in Minneapolis.

Nebraska (29-7) started the season at No. 2 behind Stanford in the AVCA preseason coaches poll. That original ranking came on the heels of the Huskers winning the 2017 national championship and a 32-4 seaspn.

The Huskers fluctuated in the AVCA coaches poll throughout the season but never fell out of the top 10. Nebraska entered the NCAA Tournament at No. 6, before defeating No. 23 Missouri, No. 10 Kentucky, No. 9 Oregon and No. 3 Illinois to get to the championship matchup with Stanford.

The final poll includes seven teams from the Big Ten (Nebraska, Illinois, No. 6 Penn State, No. 7 Minnesota, No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 12 Michigan and No. 17 Purdue), six from the Pac-12, four from the SEC, two from the Big 12 and six from other leagues.

Nebraska finished the season with 12 wins against teams in the final poll. The Huskers lose only three seniors from this year’s team, outside hitter Mikaela Foecke, libero Kenzie Maloney and setter Brooke Smith.
