On Wednesday, 4-star (HV Rating: 90.2) quarterback Luke McCaffrey‍ signed his letter of intent to play for Nebraska.

McCaffrey verbally committed back on Jun. 4 and is Nebraska’s lone quarterback commit for the class. The Huskers were able to tap into football royalty for this commitment. His dad, Ed, caught 55 touchdowns as a wide receiver in the NFL. His brother, Christian, was a Heisman finalist at Stanford and currently plays for the Carolina Panthers. His other brother, Dylan, was recently a 5-star quarterback who committed to Michigan.

The addition of McCaffrey paired with freshman sensation Adrian Martinez means that Nebraska will look to have serious athleticism at quarterback under Scott Frost. There wasn’t really a need to take another quarterback in this class. Going forward, there have been questions about if the youngest McCaffrey could move to another position and be successful if that needs to happen. I’ve not heard a lot from team sources feeling that way yet. It sounds like mostly fodder for fans and talk radio.

McCaffrey is a strong leader among his peers in the recruiting class and is well-respected by players in Colorado. It just so happens that Nebraska is continuing to ramp up its recruiting efforts in The Centennial State as the team has offered several 2020 prospects in the state. Back in April, McCaffrey detailed the special connection he made with the staff in Lincoln.

“I had a meeting with Coach Verduzco about how the program works and how they install plays and just how he wants a quarterback to be,” McCaffrey said. “It was a couple hours at least. It was special, I really felt a connection with him and I can’t wait to get working with him because I think the way he looks at the game and how he thinks about the quarterback position is really something special.”

Now that he is signed, Verduzco can get working with his latest quarterback when he arrives on campus in January.
