Nebraska Takes Series in Game 2 Win Over No. 21 Baylor

Nebraska confirmed Friday night’s win over No. 21 Baylor was not a fluke. The Huskers showed no mercy Saturday afternoon, taking Game 2 from the Bears by a score of 2-0. With the win, Nebraska officially takes the series over Baylor. The series finale is set for Sunday.

There is not a word sufficient enough to describe pitcher Nate Fisher’s performance on the mound. Fisher got the start and made the most of it, pitching a career-high eight innings. The senior recorded six strikeouts and gave up zero runs against a potent Baylor offense.

Fisher’s eight inning performance and 84 pitches is the longest by a Nebraska pitcher so far this season. Freshman Colby Gomes came in to record the final out of the game and earn his second save of the season.

Baylor was able to tame Nebraska’s bats most of the game, but sophomore Gunner Hellstrom shined going 3-of-4 on the day.

The only downside of the game was sophomore Aaron Palensky’s hitting streak coming to an end after 11 straight games with a hit.

In three of their last four games, the Huskers have walked away with wins over ranked opponents. Confidence seems to be building for Nebraska and taking a series from a top-25 team should only add a pep in the Huskers’ step moving forward. Considering the youth on the team, every win is important for the confidence meter.

Nebraska wraps up the series with Baylor on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
