Former Nebraska linebacker Luke Gifford has signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Dallas Cowboys. He confirmed the news to Hail Varsity.

The details about Gifford’s deal also came to light Saturday night.

Gifford’s name hadn’t popped up on many mock drafts prior to the weekend, but his interviews were strong and it felt like there was an outside chance he could be drafted late. While he didn’t ultimately get drafted, he did quickly sign a deal with the Cowboys once the 2019 NFL Draft concluded. The Cowboys were a team he had previously met with, as well as the Saints and Vikings.

Gifford started in all 12 games during his senior season with Nebraska, setting career highs in nearly every statistical category while earning honorable-mention All-Big Ten recognition. Gifford totaled a career-high 62 tackles in 2018. He has previously recorded 47 over his first three seasons with Nebraska combined. Gifford also led the Huskers with with 13 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, both of which were career highs.

Plenty of former Huskers have also started to chime in on Twitter with words of encouragement for players like Gifford. Former Husker and current Arizona Cardinal Chris Jones was one of them.
