Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

Nebraska made an an intriguing offer on Tuesday to two-way 2020 standout DJ Taylor. He announced the offer on Twitter.

I caught up with the Tampa Catholic star on Wednesday and he told me that he has been talking to Nebraska for a while. In fact, defensive backs coach Travis Fisher coached him at a camp down in Florida. They started building a connection then but Taylor didn’t talk to him that much after. Instead, he started talking to and building a bond with other Nebraska coaches.

How did Taylor find out about the offer? Fisher had been talking with Taylor’s dad during a practice and let him know that Nebraska was offering his son.

And as Nebraska tries to build its pipeline from Florida, Taylor is familiar with one recent Husker. He is friends with now former Husker Justin McGriff.

The fast-rising athlete prefers playing defensive back and thinks that’s his best position in college. That’s good news too, considering that’s where Nebraska is recruiting him to play. Taylor is considering making a trip to Lincoln this summer and already had an interesting connecting beyond Fisher and McGriff.

“I have a cousin that went to Nebraska,” Taylor said. “He didn’t play football. He just went there for college. I’d go visit with him. He talked to me about [Nebraska]. He just said to let him know when I want to come. One of the other coaches told me today that they are having a sort of Junior Day [Friday Night Lights II] on the 21st of June so I’m thinking about talking to my cousin about that.”

Taylor also said that distance won’t be a factor since some of the other schools he is talking with are Penn State, South Carolina, Cal and Oregon. He’s looking for strong academics, a comfortable fit, diversity and culture of the school.

Taylor wants to make a college decision by the end of summer or early part of the season.
