Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

The Nebraska coaching staff likes to recruit multi-sport athletes. One of the things that many of the prospects that the Huskers have signed over the last two years have in common is that they play multiple sports in high school. It could be wrestling with offensive tackle Bryce Benhart. Incoming outside linebacker Jamin Graham starred on the basketball court in Alabama. From the 2018 class, defensive end Casey Rogers was also a lacrosse star for Avon Old Farms High School in Connecticut.

Far and away, the most common sport that future Huskers participate in before joining the Huskers is track and field. In the 2019 class, Noa Pola-Gates, Jackson Hannah, Rahmir Johnson, Myles Farmer, Demariyon Houston, Garrett Snodgrass and Ethan Piper all participated in track. If Garrett Nelson and Jamie Nance weren’t already in Lincoln, they would have done so too.

This past weekend, Houston showed his speed by winning state in Oklahoma in the 100m and 200m event. He ran a 10.72 in the 100 and 21.67 in the 200. He also helped lead his 800m relay team to a title.

Current senior wide receiver Jaron Woodyard just won the Nebraska Invitational 200 with a time of 21.42. Houston, Woodyard and Nance give the Huskers quite the trio of wideouts with verified track speed. As a junior, Nance ran a 10.66 100m dash. We knew when Frost was hired that the team would get faster and it appears like he is on his way to checking off that goal.

Based on the early indications from the class of 2020, more track athletes are on the way. They’ll be led by quarterback Logan Smothers.
