Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

It’s walk-on Wednesday, so what better time to talk about the Huskers’ activity recently in building their walk-on class? On back-to-back nights this week Nebraska added to the walk-on class for 2020.

Tight end Nate Boerkircher of Aurora was first to make things official on Monday evening. The Aurora standout has been in contact with the Huskers for a while having attended Friday Night Lights and the Big Red BBQ this summer. He picked up his preferred walk-on offer on Saturday at the game.

Boerkircher is surely thrilled be joining the walk-on just like his older brother Ian did.

Waverly athlete Mason Nieman received his preferred walk-on offer on Monday. He didn’t need much time to think about it. Nieman announced his commitment to the Huskers on Tuesday evening to keep the run going for the Huskers.

Nieman plans to return to Lincoln this weekend for the game against Northwestern. He told Hail Varsity on Wednesday what led to him making the decision to join the walk-on class.

“I grew up wearing a Huskers jersey dreaming of playing for them,” Nieman said. “It’s always been a dream of mine.”

Nieman is the fourth known walk-on for Nebraska in the 2020 class. He joins Boerkircher, Norris' Ashton Hausmann and Lincoln Southeast offensive lineman Xavier Trevino. The Huskers have continued to make the walk-on program a focus under head coach Scott Frost. Someone who played at Nebraska in a time where the walk-on program was as its heights, he understands the value in it.

We have already seen 2019 walk-ons Luke Reimer and kicker Dylan Jorgensen get snaps in games as freshmen this season. Inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud has been complimentary of linebacker Caden McCormack. We have also seen some guys from Frost’s first walk-on class in 2018 get on the field. That group is headlined by defensive back Isaiah Stalbird who seems poised to become a scholarship player one day.

The 2020 walk-on class is just getting off the ground. Expect more additions to the storied tradition.
