Nebraska Recruiting: Travel Schedule is Hectic with Finish Line in Sight

Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

As we get one day closer to the early signing period kicking off on Dec. 18. things have gotten a little quiet. We have seen some of the dominos start to fall. Defensive end Julius Coates and outside linebacker Jimari Butler have now decommitted from the programs they originally committed to. That had to happen before they could potentially join the Huskers' class.

The public fireworks haven’t begun just yet. But do not take that to mean that the Huskers are just watching things unfold. It’s been quite the opposite. Nebraska seems to be turning over every rock it can, especially in search of linebacker help. You can get more details in our recruiting tracker but let's look at Scott Frost’s travel schedule to see how much the staff is grinding.

On Sunday, Frost went to South Dakota with defensive coordinator Erik Chinander, defensive line coach Tony Tuioti and quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco to meet up with defensive line commit Nash Hutmacher. They enjoyed a great day of pheasant hunting. The same group of coaches went to Iowa to do an in-home visit with outside linebacker commit Blaise Gunnerson.

Frost flew down to Alabama to meet with Jimari Butler on Monday. He took an official visit to Nebraska last weekend. That quick turnaround to see the prospect showed how important he is to what the Huskers are building. It appears the rest of Monday and part of Tuesday was spent in Florida. The Huskers have many targets and commits in the Sunshine State. We know today that Frost is seeing a pair of offensive line commits. Alex Conn and Turner Corcoran are both expecting in-home visits from him.

The rest of the week will be just as busy. Nebraska is holding the annual Homegrown Husker event for walk-on commits, targets and their families on Wednesday. Frost will make a stop back in Lincoln for that. The end of the week will see some potential big visits. It’s expected that a California swing will be made on Thursday. Frost will visit 4-star cornerback Darion Green-Warren and JUCO inside linebacker Eteva Muaga.

At some point, wide receiver Omar Manning will be visited. There is a big visit on the schedule with 4-star outside linebacker Kaden Johnson. There will surely be other stops for Frost as well that aren’t known at this point by me. That will add to his busy schedule. Remember that is just a glimpse into his schedule. It does not account for what all the assistant coaches are doing on the trail.

We have not seen a ton of photos of Frost in living rooms or high schools. The staff hasn’t been broadcasting where they are heading with cool graphics either. They are just putting boots on the ground and trying to land future Huskers. We will find out soon how much all that work paid off.
