The Huskers have added a big-time athlete for the middle of their defense.

On Wednesday, the Huskers got back on the commitment train when JUCO inside linebacker Eteva Mauga-Clements‍ announced he is joining the class. His coach Mike Darr confirmed the news to Hail Varsity.

“Eteva's going from one of the greatest defensive traditions in JC football to one of the greatest traditions in college football history,” Darr said. “He called Coach [Scott] Frost last night in true Va style––from the weight room. The Blackshirts just got more explosive. He's going to be a Husker.”

The Diablo Valley College standout took an official visit to Lincoln last weekend. He told Hail Varsity after that visit that he was happy with what he found at Nebraska.

“It was very eye-opening and let’s just say it exceeded my expectations,” Mauga explained.

Mauga is originally from American Samoa and was the player of the year in his conference. He posted 62 tackles, including 23 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Mauga plays a big position of need for the Huskers this cycle at inside linebacker. After this season the Huskers really wanted to upgrade athleticism in the middle of the defense. With Mauga in the fold they have done that.

His coach at Diablo Valley College raved about his ability on the football field and as a person off the field. Darr told me that Mauga’s burst and motor are as good as he’s seen in 24 years of coaching at the junior college level.

Mauga will transfer into Nebraska next month. He has three years to play two seasons. The defender is Nebraska’s 15th known commitment and is the only inside linebacker in the class currently.

Hail Varsity will have more soon on Nebraska’s latest commitment.
