Recruiting Visit Roundup: Jan. 16

Nebraska hosted five visitors this past weekend, with one coming as a bit of a last-minute surprise. By the end of the weekend, the Huskers had done enough to convince one visitor to commit and there's still reason to believe another might commit as well at a later time.

So, how did the visits go? What should you know about each? We’re breaking it down in a quick recruiting visit roundup.

Kurt Rafdal

Tight end prospect Kurt Rafdal received an offer from LSU just one day before his visit to Nebraska.

About 40 minutes later, tight end coach Tavita Thompson chimed in on Twitter.

It’s been pretty quiet on the Rafdal front since his visit, but he’s still expected to verbally commit to Nebraska. The original thought was he’d make the announcement by the end of the weekend, but that’s not to say it still won’t happen. Keep an eye on this early in the week, as Thompson will continue pushing for Rafdal’s commitment.

Jeremiah Hawkins

Wide receiver Jeremiah Hawkins landed in Nebraska for a weekend that ended up being very interesting for the Huskers’ wide receivers.

In the 2017 class, Nebraska has three wide receivers – Keyshawn Johnson Jr., Jaevon McQuitty and Tyjon Lindsey – with Lindsey’s commitment coming during Hawkins’ visit. With room for five receivers in the class, Hawkins will need to commit sooner rather than later or he could be left in the dust.

Fellow Cal commit Michael Onyemaobi told Hail Varsity that he knows Hawkins “enjoyed his trip.” The two also plan to discuss Cal and Nebraska during their official visit to Cal this upcoming weekend, so expect to hear more after that takes place.

Chris Walker

Offensive lineman Chris Walker had been committed to Wyoming since November, but he quickly made plans to visit Nebraska once he received an offer on Jan. 6. While it felt like a sure bet that Walker would flip to Nebraska, he decided to take some time to talk it through with his family and Wyoming.

The choice to think about it didn't last too long, as Walker verbally committed to Nebraska on Monday. To learn more about the Huskers' latest commit, check out his recruit profile from Jake Jensen.

Guy Thomas

All signs point to a successful weekend visit for defensive end and Nebraska commit Guy Thomas. He’s told many people he had a great time and even tweeted out a photo ‘throwing the bones’ in Memorial Stadium.

Take this as a good sign the Husker commit is very happy with his decision.

CJ Verdell

Running back CJ Verdell was originally not expected to visit to Nebraska this past weekend. Currently committed to Oregon, Verdell wanted to see what the Huskers had to offer before National Signing Day.

As for Oregon, the Ducks swooped in for a quick visit once Verdell made it home from Nebraska.

It’s not likely that Verdell will flip from Oregon to Nebraska, so it’s probably worth just appreciating the visit for what it was. The Huskers are still in a good place with running back Jaylin Bradley’s commitment.
