Wide receiver Darien Chase has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal. The redshirt freshman made the announcement on Twitter Friday night, sharing that his mental health and the need to be closer to home ultimately led him to his decision.

Chase, a Vancouver, Washington, native who signed with Nebraska in the 2019 recruiting class, played in four games for the Huskers this past season. He caught one pass for 13 yards in his career debut against Northern Illinois. He also saw game action against Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa, but did not record a reception in any of those matchups.

Chase came to Nebraska as a 4-star prospect from the state of Washington. He was a standout athlete at Union High School in Vancouver, helping the school to a Class 4A state title and a 14-0 record in 2018. He recorded 65 passes for 1,004 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns during his senior season.

Chase’s departure leaves Nebraska with 10 scholarship wide receivers on the roster. The Huskers also have 83 scholarship players on the roster, with two remaining to be used in the 2020 cycle.
