Kicker Barret Pickering is no longer a member of the Nebraska football team. The sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama, has left the program, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Hail Varsity. The news was first reported by the Omaha World-Herald

Pickering had been with the Huskers since the 2018 season, when he won the starting job as Nebraska’s place-kicker as a true freshman. He made 40-of-41 extra-point tries and 14-of-18 field goal attempts during that first season.

Pickering opted to utilize his redshirt season as a sophomore after an unspecified injury forced him to miss the first seven games of the season. He made his season debut against Indiana. He finished his career as a Husker completing 17-of-23 field goals and 50-of-51 extra points.

The departure leaves Nebraska with three place kickers currently listed on its roster for 2020: redshirt freshman Gabe Heins, sohomore Chase Contreraz and walk-on Tyler Crawford. Crawford is set to join the Huskers this summer.

It was also reported Thursday that junior Matt Waldoch would also leave the Nebraska program. A source confirmed the news to Hail Varsity.
