Nebraska has closed all home sports competitions to the public effective immediately in light of the recent COVID-19 concerns, per a release Thursday morning. The decision follows Wednesday’s announcement from the Big Ten Conference to limit winter and spring sport competitions, including championship and tournament events, to student-athletes, coaches, event staff, essential team and Conference staff, TV network partners, credentialed media, and immediate family members of the participating teams.

Nebraska’s home games and competitions will still continue as scheduled but, in accordance with the Big Ten decision, will be subject to the same limitations.

There has been no decision on the annual Red-White spring football game on April 18 at Memorial Stadium or Nebraska volleyball’s April 25 spring match in Grand Island at this time. Discussions on both will occur in the coming days.

This decision comes after Nebraska canceled its March 14 Junior Day event amid COVID-19 concerns. The Big Ten Conference Wednesday also canceled the men’s basketball tournament in Indianapolis after electing to play the opening two games on Wedensday.

All season ticket holders for the impacted games will receive a partial refund. All single-game ticket purchases will be refunded by the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office, tickets purchased online or via phone will be automatically refunded and tickets purchased in person can be returned to the point of purchase for a full refund.

As for any outside competitions or events scheduled to take place at Nebraska athletic facilities, all events have been canceled until further notice. That includes youth sports clubs practicing and competing in Nebraska athletic facilities, outside tours and other scheduled events.

Additional information or updates will be provided as needed and communicated through Nebraska. Hail Varsity will continue to offer updates as they are made available.
