The Big Ten announced Monday that it has extended its suspension of all team activities until June 1.

"This is an additional measure to the previously announced cancellation of all conference and non-conference competitions through the end of the academic year, including spring sports that compete beyond the academic year," read a conference release. “The Conference also has previously announced a moratorium on all on- and off-campus recruiting activities for the foreseeable future."

The Big Ten first announced a suspension of team activities on March 13 , putting everything on hold until April 6. The conference then extended that measure until May 4 and, with today's update, until June 1.

In late April, the conference announced the formation and membership of its Task Force for Emerging Diseases. The Task Force is chaired by Dr. Chris Kratochvil, Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research and Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The group includes doctors from all Big Ten institutions.

"Strong participation by all of the Big Ten universities has provided for a robust and synergistic team," Dr. Kratochvil said in April. "The group serves as a resource to the entire Conference, addressing current infectious disease concerns, while preparing the Big Ten for the safe resumption of athletic activities in the future."
