Nebraska basketball released its nonconference schedule on Monday featuring high-major games against Creighton and Kansas State in addition to games yet to be determined in the Myrtle Beach Invitational and ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

“This nonconference schedule will help prepare us for Big Ten play,” Coach Fred Hoiberg said in a release. “The Myrtle Beach Tournament will give us an early measuring stick with a strong field and three games in a four-day stretch. We also have opportunities with games against Creighton, Kansas State and the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, as well as several regional opponents.”

After an exhibition game against NAIA school Peru State on Nov. 2, the Huskers will open the season on Nov. 10 against a familiar face for one of the coaches on staff as Dennis Gates, the brother of Nebraska assistant Armon Gates, took over as head coach at Cleveland State last year. The Vikings went 11-21 in Gates’ first season but return their top four scorers.

Home games against Purdue Fort Wayne on Nov. 14 and Lamar on Nov. 25 sandwich Nebraska’s trip to Conway, South Carolina, for the Myrtle Beach Classic. The field for that tournament includes Charlotte, Dayton, Loyola Chicago, Missouri, Penn and Pittsburgh in addition to the Huskers.

The annual match-up against in-state rival Creighton is scheduled for Dec. 12 this season in Lincoln, and a week later the Huskers will head down to the Sprint Center in Kansas City to take on old Big 12 foe Kansas State in a neutral site meeting. The Wildcats had a down year in 2019-20, finishing 11-21, but Bruce Weber flipped his roster with a seven-man recruiting class including a pair of junior college transfers. The neutral site game kicks off a three-year series that includes home games for each team.

The Huskers will host UMKC on Dec. 21 in a homecoming for Josiah Allick, a Lincoln North Star product heading into his sophomore season with the Kangaroos. Allick’s younger sister, Bekka, is a 2023 Nebraska volleyball commit. The Kangaroos went 16-14 under first-year coach Billy Donlon and Allick started 12 games, averaging 5.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 16.3 minutes per game.

Nebraska closes out the nonconference schedule against Florida A&M on Dec. 29.
