Nebraska Recruiting: Roundup of New Husker Offers Since Dead Period Lifted

June 08, 2021

Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

It has been a busy few days for Nebraska recruiting. The dead period lifting has brought the usual fast-paced action that we are used to with normal recruiting periods. The Husker staff has been busy. Coaches have been out at camps and the team has hosted its own camps. Nebraska has had unofficial visitors come on campus to participate in private workouts. Eight official visitors also checked out Nebraska last weekend.

So, you may have missed the new offers that went out since the dead period was lifted.

Things got kicked off last week when the Huskers offered Lincoln Southeast linebacker Jake Appleget. The athlete also picked up an offer from Minnesota.

On Friday, the team hosted several prospects for private workouts. The players were able to go through a range of tests and drills with the coaching staff. From that the Huskers offered Iowa Western defensive lineman Jordan Van Den Berg.

Van Den Berg also received an offer from Iowa after working out with the Hawkeyes. He was impressed with the Huskers and Hawkeyes but now will head to Penn State to workout. It could be a Big Ten battle for his signature.

The Huskers also made an offer on the offensive line. The team worked out 2022 Colorado lineman John Pastore. He impressed enough to earn an offer from the team.

Pastore will return to Nebraska for another camp on June 18.

Another Lincoln Southeast player was offered by the Huskers when 2023 offensive tackle Gunnar Gottula was offered. He impressed during the Friday Night Lights camp. He already held offers from Iowa State and Kansas State.

The Huskers also made a new defensive back offer for the 2022 class. Quantaves Gaskins made the trip to Lincoln for Friday Night Lights. He impressed coach Scott Frost and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander. Then he camped at Florida State’s mega camp, where Travis Fisher was over the weekend. The Huskers came through with an offer.

We’ll have more on Gaskins’ story in Wednesday’s notebook.

Nebraska also made a new outside linebacker offer for the 2022 class. Chase Kennedy is a prospect who was at the SMU camp. The Huskers were impressed and offered him a scholarship.

“I thought it was amazing because it was my first in person offer and also my first time seeing Coach Dawson and Coach Chinander in person,” Kennedy said. “I thought it was very good because they got to see my abilities in person and they liked what they saw and decided to pull the trigger. I am very thankful for that.”

The Huskers have been more active than expected with new offers since the dead period lifted. This is likely just the beginning as we move through a big month.
