Putting together a team of a program’s best walk-ons is a daunting task anywhere, but particularly so at Nebraska, perhaps the greatest walk-on program on earth.
Luckily, we have just the man for the job. Editor Mike Babcock, now in his 39th season covering Nebraska, made plenty of tough choices in arriving at a starting 11 both ways as well as a kicker and punter. But choose he did and you can read all about it in the latest issue of Hail Varsity out this week.
Other highlights from the issue include:
>>Publisher Aaron Babcock went behind the scenes with the Nebraska volleyball program prior to the Oct. 7 match against Indiana to document what the lead up to a game looks like for one of the best volleyball teams in the country.
>>We honor Milt Tenopir in a number of ways in the issue, turning over our entire Hot Reads section at the front of the magazine to examining Tenopir’s impact on the program. Mike Babcock’s also selected an “All-Tenopir” team of the best offensive linemen to play under Nebraska’s longtime assistant and shared some his memories of Tenopir in his back-page column.
>>Staff writer Jacob Padilla catches up with outside hitter Olivia Boender in this issue’s Q&A.
>>Managing editor Brandon Vogel writes about some of the local angst surrounding the Huskers’ climb towards a top 10 ranking and how it’s a good reflection of Husker fans.
>>And, of course, we’ve got the fantastic football game photos you’ve come to expect.
The latest issue of Hail Varsity ships this week and will be in mailboxes and on newsstands shortly.
