The Nebraska women’s golf team is headed to Columbus, Ohio, for NCAA Regional play. The Huskers are the No. 13 seed in the Columbus regional.
“I am excited about what our team has been able to accomplish so far, and we are thrilled about our selection into the NCAA Regional in Columbus,” Coach Lisa Johnson said. “Our golfers are familiar with the Scarlet Course at Ohio State, and we will go back to Ohio with a lot of confidence after our performance at the Big Ten Championship in TPC River’s Bend last week.”
Nebraska, who tied for second at the Big Ten Championship, has not qualified for NCAA Regional play as a team since 2008. The bid is Nebraska’s 12th in program history, which dates back to the team’s first appearance in 1994.
The Huskers gathered at the Firethorn Golf Club for a watch party on Wednesday, sitting on the patio to watch the announcement over lunch. The live announcement of the 72-team NCAA Tournament field was broadcast on the GOLF Channel.
The NCAA Tournament consists of four 18-team regionals, which are held May 10-12 in Stanford, California, Columbus, Ohio, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Louisville, Kentucky. The top six teams in each region will advance to the NCAA Championship Finals at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 21-26.
