Briana Holman took home MVP honors at the Ameritas Players Challenge over the weekend as she guided the No. 12 Huskers (3-2) to a weekend sweep and tournament title and now the Big Ten has recognized her as well as the coference tabbed her as the Big Ten Defenisve Player of the Week.
Holman was a force at the net over the weekend, averaging 2.78 kills and 2.0 blocks per set while hitting .525 in wins over UMBC, Oral Roberts and St. Mary's. Holman opened the weekend with 10 kills on 13 swings (.769 hitting) with six blocks against the Retrievers of UMBC. She put down 25 kills while commmitting just four errors over the weekend.
The weekly award is Holman's first as a Husker. She earned two SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors and two SEC Freshman of the Week honors while she was with LSU. Holman earned First Team All-America honors after her sophomore season with the Tigers and was an honorable mention All-American as a freshman at LSU and last season at Nebraska.
Penn State middle blocker Haleigh Washington earned Big Ten Player of the Week, Minnesota's Samantha Seliger-Swenson was the Setter of the Week and Sydney Hilley of Wisconsin was named Freshman of the Week.
The Huskers return to action on Friday for the first of two home macthes against No. 11 UCLA.
