Four Huskers Honored by AVCA

Four Huskers earned All-America honors as the AVCA announced postseason plaudits on Wednesday.

Senior middle blocker Lauren Stivrins is a first-team All-American, junior setter Nicklin Hames is a second-teamer, senior outside hitter Lexi Sun made the third team and sophomore outside hitter Madi Kubik is an honorable mention selection.

Stivrins earned her third straight All-America nod this season, averaging 3.19 kills on .471 hitting and 1.03 blocks per set including a team-best eight solo stuffs. She fell just short of setting a new single-season school record for hitting percentage (.473 by Tracy Stalls) but owns the second- and third-best hitting seasons on that list. She led the Big Ten in hitting percentage by a wide margin and hit over .400 in 13 of her 18 matches. She recorded a season high 18 kills twice, once in a four-set win over Maryland and once in a five-set win over Ohio State.

Stivrins made the first-team as a sophomore in 2018 and was a second-teamer last season. She’s the first three-time All-American since Kadie Rolfzen (2013-16).

Hames made an All-America team for the first team after earning honorable mention honors the last two years. She led the Big Ten with 10.91 assists per set and orchestrated the second-best offense in the Big Ten as the Huskers hit .270. She also averaged 2.91 digs per set and served up 16 aces. Hames recorded a double-double in 10 of her 19 matches.

Sun earned third-team All-American honors for the second straight year, leading the Huskers with a career-high 3.64 kills per set while hitting .242. She averaged 2.21 digs and 0.65 blocks per set while serving a team-best 26 aces. Sun had five double-doubles and notched double-digit kills in 15 of her 19 matches. She led the Huskers to sweep over Baylor in the Regional Semifinal round with a career-high five aces and 12 kills on .345 hitting.

Kubik was an honorable mention pick for the second straight year after averaging 2.83 kills per set on .219 hitting and 2.36 digs per set. She was the AVCA North Region Freshman of the Year last season. Kubik recorded six double-doubles and had 11 matches with double-digit kills.

Nebraska now has a nation-leading 95 AVCA All-Americans in program history, with 47 different players accounting for those honors. Nebraska has had multiple All-Americans in each of the last six seasons.
