Huskers Hold Steady at No. 4 in Coaches Poll

November 07, 2022

The top nine of the AVCA Coaches Poll remained unchanged this week as the Huskers came in at No. 4 for the second straight week.

The Cornhuskers (21-2, 13-1 Big Ten) received one first-place vote again after sweeping Indiana at home on Wednesday and surviving a five-set upset bid at Northwestern on Sunday. The human poll matches the RPI this week as well after the Huskers moved up two spots to No. 4.

Texas (17-1, 54 first-place votes) is still No. 1, San Diego (22-1, five first-place votes) is No. 2 and Wisconsin (19-3, 13-1 Big Ten, three first-place votes) remains at No. 3. Louisville (22-2) received the final first-place votes and rounds out the top five.

Nebraska remains in a three-way tie atop the Big Ten standings after a relatively uneventful week in the conference.

Ohio State is the third team sitting at 13-1 in conference play and is 175 overall, and the Buckeyes remained at No. 6. Minnesota (15-7, 10-4) he’d steady at No. 9. No. 15 Purdue (18-6, 9-5) and No. 16 Penn State (19-6, 8-6) each dropped one spot from last week’s poll.

After pushing Nebraska to five sets on Sunday, Northwestern (17-9, 6-8) received a few more votes and comes in at No. 30. Michigan (14-10, 5-9) was also among the others receiving votes, scoring two points less than the Wildcats.

Among Nebraska’s nonconference opponents, Stanford (18-4) remained at No. 8. Creighton (22-3) moved up one spot to No. 12 while Kentucky (15-6) moved up one spot to No. 20. Pepperdine (17 points, 27th) and Loyola Marymount (six points, 33rd) are among others receiving votes.

After facing two unranked opponents last wee, the Huskers will get another top-10 matchup this week as they head to Columbus, Ohio, to take on the Buckeyes on Sunday. But first, Nebraska will host Iowa on Friday.
