Nebraska volleyball’s weekend matches against Wisconsin have been postponed. The No. 4 Huskers were set to face the No. 1 Badgers on Friday and Saturday.
“We are obviously disappointed that we won’t get to compete at Wisconsin this weekend, but our players understand that the health and safety of everyone is most important,” Coach John Cook said in a statement on Thursday.
The decision to postpone was mutually agreed upon by the two programs. It was made “out of an abundance of caution surrounding the health and safety of the participants, and the institutions will work with the Big Ten Conference to identify rescheduling options.” The matches were postponed due to the health and safety concerns related to COVID-19.
Nebraska previously had its home-opening matches with Northwestern postponed.
“I’ve been worried about this ever since I’ve been following football, following basketball and of course, I’ve been worried about volleyball,” Coach John Cook said following the postponement with the Wildcats. “That’s why we’re in the mindset of just taking it one day at a time. I’m very concerned about it and if it gets really bad, and of course what the University of Michigan just did shutting down with worrying about this new variation of the virus, it can go like wildfire throughout the Big Ten …
“But we were at Indiana and they did a great job of testing us. They’re doing testing here every day. So much is out of your control. You can do everything right, which we’re trying to do and I think our players have done a pretty good job, so you’ve just got to keep your fingers crossed.”
Nebraska is scheduled to play at Illinois next Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6. Friday’s match is set for 8 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network. The time and television schedule for Saturday’s match is TBD.
