Nebraska Guard Leigha Brown Puts Name in NCAA Transfer Portal

April 02, 2020

The Nebraska women’s basketball team roster has taken another hit. Leigha Brown, the Huskers’ leading scorer, has put her name in the NCAA transfer portal.

Brown, a 6-foot-1 guard from Auburn, Indiana, recently finished her sophomore season at Nebraska. She was named the Big Ten sixth player of the year by both the conference coaches and media for the 2019-20 regular season.

As a sophomore, Brown produced double figures 23 times, including eight 20-point games. She led the Huskers in scoring with 14.4 points per game, and added 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists. Brown ended the season by scoring 22 points in each of Nebraska’s final three games.

Brown made Coach Amy Williams aware of her decision on Thursday.

"Leigha has spent the past couple weeks at home with her family during this truly unique and unprecedented time in the world,” Williams said in a statement provided to Hail Varsity. “She indicated to us that she would like to find somewhere closer to home to continue her career. We wish her the best moving forward."

Brown’s decision to transfer follows the previous departures of both forwards Ashtyn Veerbeek and Kayla Mershon. Veerbeek is tranferring to Dordt, an NAIA program, while Mershon is transferring to Minnesota.
