Nebraska Women’s Basketball Set for Strong Big Ten Schedule

September 08, 2021

The Nebraska women’s basketball team has its Big Ten schedule. The conference slate was released Wednesday afternoon.

Outside of the Big Ten slate, the Huskers will play 11 nonconference games—and host eight of them— before the majority of conference play begins. The Huskers will compete in the University of San Diego Thanksgiving Tournament in November and the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in December.

The Huskers will play an exhibition game against Midland University on Nov. 1 at Pinnacle Bank Arena before kicking off their nonconference slate. The Huskers will host Maine (Nov. 9), Prairie View A&M (Nov. 11), Alabama A&M (Nov. 14), Creighton (Nov. 17) and North Carolina Central (Nov. 20) before traveling to San Diego for the Thanksgiving tournament where they’ll play Drexel University (Nov. 26) and either San Diego or Fresno State (Nov. 27). Drexel made the NCAA tournament last season while Fresno State made the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.

Nebraska will then travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to play Wake Forest (Dec. 1) in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge before opening conference play at Minnesota on Dec. 6. The Huskers will then head back home to host three more nonconference games against Indiana State (Dec. 11), Drake (Dec. 19) and Wyoming (Dec. 22). Wake Forest and Wyoming both made last season’s NCAA Tournament while Drake made the WNIT.

The Huskers will host conference opponents Michigan (Jan. 4), Iowa (Jan. 9), Rutgers (Jan. 20), Wisconsin (Jan. 27), Purdue (Jan. 30), Penn State (Feb. 3), Indiana (Feb. 14), Minnesota (Feb. 20) and Northwestern (Feb. 27).

Nebraska’s away conference schedule includes the aforementioned trip to Minnesota, Michigan State (Dec. 30/21), Indiana (Jan. 13), Iowa (Jan. 16), Illinois (Jan. 23), Maryland (Feb. 6), Ohio State (Feb. 10), Penn State (Feb. 17) and Wisconsin (Feb. 23). The matchup with the Spartans—which is currently listed for two possible dates—will be finalized at a later time.

The Huskers play five Big Ten teams twice, including Iowa (Jan. 9/Jan. 16), Indiana (Jan. 13/Feb. 14), Penn State (Feb. 3/Feb. 17), Minnesota (Dec. 6/Dec. 20) and Wisconsin (Jan. 27/Feb. 23).

The Big Ten Tournament will be March 2-6 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The times for these games will be announced at a later date. Television designations and other media information will be announced at later dates as well.

Nebraska finished last season 13-13 with a 9-10 record in conference play. The Huskers made the second round of the WNIT before losing to Colorado. Amy Williams is entering her sixth year as Nebraska’s head coach and has a 72-75 overall record during that stretch. Williams returns four starters and all but one player from Nebraska’s 2020-21 roster, including leading scorers Sam Haiby (16.8 ppg) and Isabelle Bourne (13.6 ppg).
