The letter ‘C’ isn’t just for the practice jerseys this season. For the four captains – Taylor Martinez, Quincy Enunwa, Spencer Long and Ciante Evans – being a captain will be something they will wear on their chests every football Saturday in 2013.
Equipment Manager Jay Terry confirmed that the Nebraska captains will boast the ‘C’ on their game jerseys, similar to the practice jerseys this fall camp. The letter will be placed under the Big Ten patch on each jersey.
This update to the four captains’ jerseys will not only be on Nebraska’s home and away jerseys, but also the black alternate jerseys for the game with UCLA on Sept. 14.
For the first time since 2007, Nebraska’s captains will remain the same all season. With it comes the honor of a permanent ‘C’ on both practice and game jerseys, something previous rotating captains were unable to be a part of. The last time captains had the ‘C’ included on their jerseys was in 2007, where the ‘C’ replaced the ‘N’ on the ‘Winning Tradition’ patch on the left shoulder.
Adding the ‘C’ back to the captains’ jerseys joins other small but significant changes by Pelini and staff, including recent decisions such as naming set captains prior to the season to handing out Blackshirts before the first game for the first time in the head coach’s Nebraska career.
“I think, ideally, this is what we’ve always wanted, but we struggled when we first came here to find guys who had arrived at that point of being that kind of a leader,” running backs coach Ron Brown has said about the set captains for 2013.
Nebraska has apparently found this leaders this season and it will be there for all to see this Saturday.
